Phil Ciganer is best known as the proprietor of the Towne Crier Cafe, one of the most respected and oldest ongoing venues of it's type in the country, having opened its doors in 1972. The Towne Crier Cafe has presented thousands of concerts with some of the best know and finest musicians and performing artists in the world.
Phil grew up in Brooklyn and, while working as a floor trader on the American Stock Exchange, he began producing concerts in New York City parks. He also produced concerts in venues from Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall to The Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. Phil has been an integral part of the east coast music scene since the 'late 60s. Shortly after moving to the Hudson Valley, he began work with the Clearwater organization, and was instrumental in transforming the Clearwater's annual folk picnic to The Great Hudson River Revival, which he produced & directed. He also produced & directed the Bear Mountain Festival of World Music & Dance, along with the World Peace Festival and countless other concerts and functions. In recent years, he has worked as a consultant to other festivals and special events in the US, Europe, Canada and Central America.
Phil has spent a great deal of his time traveling throughout Central America, starting in 1970, and could be considered a seasoned "explorer" of that part of the world, returning to Costa Rica every chance he has had.
